The Nigeria Football Federation will closely monitor the Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr and the NFF is also looking forward to winning the 2019 African Cup of Nations title.
The NFF President Amaju Pinnick said that although it would not entirely interfere with Rohr’s selection of his team, the football body would be part of critical decisions regarding the squad for the 2019 AFCON.
Pinnick said the only thing that would be acceptable to the Nigerian people was for the Eagles to win this year’s AFCON after missing out of the last two editions of the tournament.
“Rohr is the coach of the team but we are going to monitor his activities very closely; we are not going to take over his job but it is important that we guide him very well because AFCON is a very huge project. We were not in the last two editions of the tournament, the only way we can impress Nigerians is to win this year’s competition, even if we reach the final, I don’t think the fans will really appreciate it so we have to do everything to make sure that we win that tournament,” he said.
The NFF chief said finance was always a challenge but they had mapped out strategies to raise the needed funds to prosecute the tournament.
“We are keen to work our socks off to raise money; it is always a challenge but we will find a way around it, we have the support of our sponsors, the government and hopefully we can get all what we want to make this dream a reality,” he said.
