The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, and his deputy, Idiat Adebule, have congratulated the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his running mate, Femi Hamzat, on their victory in Saturday’s poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday declared Sanwo-Olu winner of the governorship election in Lagos State with 739,445 votes, ahead of his closest contender, Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 206,141 votes.
In a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, Ambode congratulated Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat as well as the 40 APC House of Assembly candidates in the polls.
He described Sanwo-Olu’s victory as well-deserved and “a reward for the vigorous campaign embarked upon by the APC candidate and his running mate across the length and breadth of the state.”
The governor thanked Lagosians for keeping faith with the APC.
“The people of Lagos have decided to stay on the path of infrastructural drive, economic growth and all-round development,” Ambode said.
On her part, Adebule described Sanwo Olu’s victory as the expression of the people’s wish and appreciation of good governance in Lagos State since 1999.
She said with the “requisite experience, intelligence and technical know-how,” Sanwo-Olu was the best man for the job.
Adebule commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for conducting free, peaceful and credible elections across the country, urging them to continue to improve on their operations in future elections so as to earn more public confidence
