Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has urged leaders to treat human capital development of youths with topmost priority as this would turning corps members into job creators rather than job seekers
The Governor said this today at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1, Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.
“I want you to bear in mind that the human capital development of our youths remain topmost to our administration and we will continue to create the enabling environment or you to unleash your entrepreneurial potentials and innovative skills.”
While urging the Corps members to take advantage of the various entrepreneurial trainings they had at the orientation camp to make a difference to the various communities where they are posted for their primary assignment and after the national Service
“I therefore urge you to complement the effort of the Government and the NYSC scheme by taking advantage of the trainings organised for you during this orientation and supersede the community development records of your predecessors”, Ambode said.
Ambode also commended the management of the National Youth Service Corps for sustaining the scheme in the last 45 Years of worthy and impactful existence “It is worthy to note that the National Youth Service Corps this year, celebrated 45 years of worthy and impactful existence, mobilising and grooming graduates for the promotion of national unity and development. I commend the entire management and staff of the NYSC for remaining committed to the idea of its founding fathers and for standing the test of time despite the challenges the scheme has faced over the years” the Governor, said.
Also speaking during the closing ceremony the State Co-Ordinator, NYSC Lagos State, Prince Mohammed Momoh commended the Governor of Lagos, His Excellency, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode for the completion of the comprehensive renovation of the facilities being used for the orientation programme and his unflinching support for the scheme in the State.
“In particular, we wish to express our gratitude to His Excellency for the completion of the comprehensive renovation of the facility being used for the orientation course which was handed over to the government by the contactor just last week. This has indeed made the camp very conducive for the course participants.”
He acknowledge the unwavering and fatherly support of the State Governor for to NYSC in the State saying “ permit me to express our sincere appreciation to His Ecellency, the Governor of Lagos State,Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, for his unflinching support and fatherly love which has contributed in no small measure to the success of the scheme in the discharge of its duties in the State
He also implored the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme.
The Oath of Allegiance for the 2,768 Corps members was administered by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade who also advised the Corps members to abide by the rules and regulations of the camp.
