 Bolanle Ambode Praises Unilag Women Society At Book Launch

Wife of the governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, has lauded the great achievements of the University of Lagos Women Society, at the launch of the book, ‘ULWS: 50 Years of Caring and Imparting’, to mark the golden jubilee anniversary of the society.
She spoke at the Unilag Primary School Hall, Akoka, where she noted that it took vision to establish a nursery school in 1967 with 10 children and perseverance to grow the school to its current stature.
Speaking further, she said it took a lot of hard work and commitment on the part of the founders to grow from crèche, to playgroup, nursery, kindergarten and primary school, with a current population of more than one thousand children.
According to her, ‘Certainly, a journey of fifty years could not be without its own twists and bends, as well as the very low moments. This is why the book launch is a great idea to tell the whole story, and teach a lesson in vision, hope and perseverance’.
‘Through the book, the younger generation of women should learn the qualities of good motherhood, as demonstrated in hardwork, care and consideration for the happiness of the child and welfare of the family’, she observed.
She commended the book as a rich source of knowledge on child care and parenting while thanking the university authorities for their support to the women.
In her remarks, the deputy governor of Osun State, Mrs. Titi- Laoye Tomori, showered encomiums on the founding mothers for their commitment and vision, comparing the achievements of the women society, to a small seed that has grown into an oak tree.
She congratulated the society on the golden jubilee anniversary and book, which according to her is a compendium of the historical times and events, which defined and shaped the cultural cum social status, and relevance of University of Lagos Women Society.
In her welcome address, the president of the society, Mrs. Momudat Bello, disclosed that the society had contributed immensely to the development of the University of Lagos by providing qualitative nursery and primary education to children of staff, commending them for sustaining the aesthetics of the school.
Others from the academia in attendance include but not limited to; Prof. Grace Alele- Williams; Prof. ibidapo-Obe and his wife, Mrs. Olushola Ibidapo-Obe; Prof.Yemi Olatunji-Bello, former deputy vice chancellor of LASU and Professor of physiology; Prof. folashade Ogunsola, the deputy Vice Chancellor (Development Services-UNILAG).
