Buhari Hosts Ogoni Leaders, Charges Them To Keep Peace; President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the leadership of the Ogoni land to use their esteemed intellectual capacity to halt the youth restiveness in their community.
He said such cooperation is needed now that local and international efforts are on to revive the environmental degradation of the entire area.
The president made this charge while playing host to the Ogoni leaders, a community in Rivers state who had come on a courtesy visit to the Aso rock seat of power.
President Buhari reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to fulfilling all contractual agreements it made with the people in terms of infrastructural renewal within the limited financial resources at its disposal.
The president further wondered why those that are castigating the present government kept quiet while the past administration squandered the oil gains of the county for 16 years with no impactful infrastructure to be shown for it.
The leader of the delegation professor Walter Ollor in his address thanked the Buhari administration for keeping faith with its electioneering promises to the people but called for a more coordinated efforts to fully revive the environment.
He also solicited the federal government to increasing the human capacity of the Ogoni people by converting the proposed centre of environmental excellence in Ogoni land to a federal university.
President Buhari had earlier on Friday received a delegation of traditional rulers from Abia state who had come on a solidarity visit.
