Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina, has received praise from his former club Chelsea following his impressive contribution to Nigeria’s bright start to the ongoing Africa Nations Cup in Egypt.
Aina’s pass, with his back turned to Burundi’s goal, helped Nigeria finally break down the stubborn debutants, as it left space for Odion Ighalo to score the game’s only goal in the 77th minute, much to the delight of Chelsea’s media unit.
The Blues praised Aina, who played on loan at Torino last season in the Italian Serie A before signing a permanent deal at the Turin-based club on account of his good form.
In their overall assessment of the game, the London club, who recently won the Europa League, stated: “In the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Kenneth Omeruo played the full game as Nigeria got their tournament off to a winning start with a 1-0 win over Burundi who were playing their first ever game in these finals.
“The newcomers hit the bar in the first half but were defeated 1-0 when former Watford striker Odion Ighalo converted a skillful back-heeled pass from Aina, who recently left Chelsea for Torino.”
Aina has now taken the good form into action with the Eagles, as he put up his best performance for Nigeria since switching allegiance from England, with which he had played at youth national team level.
Although he eventually missed out on Nigeria’s final squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Aina has bounced back with remarkable agility and quality, which includes ability to play as a right-back or left-back, such that his future with the Eagles looks very bright.
