Chelsea signs Brighton midfielder, Caicedo for £100m

Moises Caicedo has agreed to an eight-year contract with Chelsea; the midfielder passed his medical on Monday; the Blues will pay Brighton £100 million for Caicedo, plus another £15 million if he performs well; and Caicedo declined a £111 million offer from Liverpool. According to reports, Chelsea will pay a base sum of £100 million plus £15 million in performance-based add-ons.

Caicedo’s contract has a one-year extension option, and Brighton will receive a sell-on clause that has been called “significant” as part of the agreement.
The add-ons have been divided into two categories: those that are “quite easily achievable” and those that are “much harder” to complete.
Caicedo and Liverpool reached an agreement last week for a £111 million transfer, but the deal fell through after the 21-year-old notified the team he wants to join Chelsea.

Caicedo had been scheduled for a medical trip to Liverpool on Friday after Jurgen Klopp’s team had a bid approved by Brighton after a deadline for bids on Thursday at midnight.

However, the Ecuadorian international had a change of heart and informed Liverpool that he did not want to join after the Reds’ 1-1 Premier League draw at Chelsea on Sunday.

On Monday, Caicedo finished his physical at Chelsea’s practise facility.

“Moises is a player we’ve been after for a while,” co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said. “He possesses an uncommon midfield skill set. We anticipate that he will have a big impact at Stamford Bridge both this season and in the years to come.
