Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, has congratulated Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, after his record-breaking move to Italian side, Napoli.
The deal for the 21-year-old was confirmed by Napoli and Lille on Friday and according to French sports newspaper L’Equipe, the contract is worth more than €81.3m making him the most expensive African player of all time.
Osimhen was highly sought after by the Italian club after his impressive debut season in Ligue 1 with Lille, where he scored 18 goals in 38 appearances and finishing the season as the league’s fourth-highest scorer.
“I celebrate today Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian professional footballer, for the height he has attained. His recent exploits and signing signposts the boundless natural talents and brilliance of our youth if given the opportunity to showcase. Victor, a true Nigerian brand!,” Dare tweeted on Saturday.
According to Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, Osimhen will become one of the highest-paid players in the team behind Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly and forwards Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens.
“Lille will receive €80m while the player over the years will get between €4m and €4.5m per season,” said De Laurentiis on Radio Kiss Kiss.
