 Delta Queens Sail To Women’s Champions League Final In Five-Goal Thriller

Nigeria’s Delta Queens FC has earned a spot in the WAFU B Qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

After a conventional 90-minute match versus Athletico ended in a 1-1 draw, the Nigerian team Delta Queens went on to win 3-2 in overtime. The Nigerian champions had previously won Group A, qualifying them for the semifinals.

Athletico scored in the fifth minute to get the game off to a strong start. Mercy Omokwo, who had just been substituted in, scored a long-range screamer three minutes after the hour mark to tie the game. The game went into extra time after the regular period concluded with a score of 1-1.

With a quick lob in the 106th minute, Taiwo Afolabi increased the advantage and ensured victory for the Delta Queens

 

Athletico’s captain Joy Sunday scored a consolation goal in the 114th minute to bring the score even.

The Nigerian Champions have advanced to the final, where they could face Ampem Darkoa of Ghana or Sam Nelly of Benin.
