The Lagos State Government has emphasised its commitment to improving the ability of teachers in order to achieve excellent performance among students and create a healthy rivalry in several competitions across the State and beyond.
This was disclosed at the 2018 Seminar/Workshop for debate handlers and teachers in charge of Drama, an initiative of the Co-curricular Unit of the Lagos State Ministry of Education.
Addressing participants at the seminar, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanye stated that career development is imperative as it lays emphasis on broader skills which are applicable in a wide range of situations including decision making, creative thinking and managing students for desired results.
Mrs. Adekanye who was represented by the Director, Co-Curricular, Mrs. Babs Akinyeye, pointed out that Debate and Dramatic Art creates an immense opportunity for students to explore their creativity and build interpersonal skills using instructional methods to proffer solutions to various challenges as they unfold.
“The introduction of debate competition for students in the State will further enhance their ability to communicate effectively without grammatical errors”, she declared.
While imploring participants to ensure they offer the best training to the students in order to meet up with the global standard, the Permanent Secretary encouraged teachers to maximise this opportunity as the government is committed as ever to invest immensely in the future of its students.
“Adequate capacity building of staff and provision of instructional materials for seamless service delivery to the teeming population of students in the State remain the priority of this government”, she emphasised.
