FG CALLS FOR TRANSPARENT UTILISATION OF UBEC FUNDS
The Federal Government has warned against misappropriation of funds meant for basic education saying culprits will be brought to book.
Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu who issued the warning at the 14th quarterly meeting of Universal Basic Education Commission Management Meeting with State Chairmen of the agency in Abuja, called for transparent utilisation of resources for quality revival of education at the basic education sub sector.
Represented by the Director of Basic Education in the Ministry, Mrs. August Okonkwo, the Minister lamented the inability of most State Government to access accumulated funds in the Commission saying the trend have severe consequences in efforts to promote Basic Education delivery in Nigeria.
He however challenged the Conference to come up with recommendations that will add value to the sub sector in the face of security and other challenges.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of UBBEC, Dikko Suleiman said the quarterly Meeting was designed to initiate polices that will address challenges bedeviling basic education.
The theme of the meeting is ” Consolidate Basic Education in Nigeria : Challenges and the way forward “.
