 FG Disburses N90m To Empower 180 Bakassi Returnees

The Federal Government has disbursed N90 million to empower 180 Bakassi returnees it trained in various fields of endeavour at the University of Calabar, Cross River State.

The government made the disbursement during the convocation ceremony marking the end of a 10-day training and empowerment programme organised for the Bakassi returnees trained in areas of poultry, fishery production, processing, preservation, packaging and marketing.

Each of the 180 Bakassi returnees who participated in the training and empowerment programme organised by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs went home with N500,000 to start up a business in the area of his or her specialisation.

Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Prof. Claudius Daramola, while speaking at the event, charged the graduands to make good use of the skills they acquired by running profitable enterprises that will engage others in their various communities. The minister also urged the beneficiaries to contribute to the food security of the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large.
