The Federal Government has inaugurated the inter-ministerial Presidential Inauguration Committee with a view to coordinating activities leading to the inauguration of the president on May 29.

Nigerian President Mohammadu Buhari (L) sits beside his wife Aisha, as he signs after swearing to an oath during his inauguration at the Eagles Square in Abuja, on May 29, 2015.

Buhari, 72, defeated Goodluck Jonathan in March 28 elections — the first time in Nigeria’s history that an opposition candidate had beaten a sitting president.

Inaugurating the committee Thursday in Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF recalled that about four years ago, “the Buhari Administration came on board with the promise of Change built on economy, security and anti-corruption. The Government has since 2015 committed itself to working hard to achieve sustainable economic

growth, as well as a secure and corruption free nation”. He said “preparatory to the inauguration of the new Administration, Mr. President approved the constitution of this Presidential Inter-Ministerial Inauguration Committee (PIC-2019) to plan, organize and execute all approved programmes for the series of activities that would be

undertaken”.
