His Excellency, Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu, has called on Muslims, Christians and other faith-based organisations to support his administration’s waste and transportation reforms initiatives, for cleaner and enhanced environment, as well as a hitch-free commuting in Lagos.
In his remarks at the first Jumat Service and Special prayers for his administration in the Alausa Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja on Friday, May 31, 2019, Governor Sanwo-olu stated that he would engage in continuous consultation and dialogue with the Muslim communities, through the Mosques, and with Christians communities, through the churches, to first, enlighten all Lagosians on importance of cleanliness and hygiene through sorting of waste at sources at homes and workplaces, and second, on the importance of obeying traffic rules and not driving against the traffic for hassle-free and easy commuting in Lagos.
At the Special Prayer, which was also attended by his wife, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-olu, the Governor promised that in his return-visit to Alausa Community Central Mosque, he would come with waste-sorting materials of different colors, to show congregation and teach them on how to sort waste of specific kind in a coloured-specific waste bin. The same, he said would be done for churches.
Mr. Sanwo-olu implored Muslims and Christians clerics and leaders to lead the campaigns for the reforms in the communities, as peoples believed and related with them more easily. He went on to emphasis the importance of their collaboration by stating that the battle for reform would be half-won if faith-based leaders actively participated in the campaigns.
While thanking all Muslims and indeed all Lagosians for their solid support before and during elections, he urged them not to relent in their support and prayers for his administration and Lagos, as “their prayer is what will see the administration through.”
He said his administration would also give priority to teachers welfare, school upgrading and school modernization.
He said in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan and its last ten days, all prayers said for him, his deputy and other members of his administration at the Jumat Service and henceforth would be easily answered. He went on to pray that all Lagosians would be visited by God’s special favours, as he had been by God’s Special Grace.
The Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri Okun-Ola, emphasized the crucial problems of transportation and waste management, for a cleaner and better Lagos and implored all Lagosians to subscribe to Gov. Sanwo-olu’s initiatives on waste and transportation initiatives.
He enjoined people to obey traffics rules and imbibe the proper waste management habits.
Among those who prayed for Lagos were Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Hamzat Kadiri, prayed for Lagos; Alhaji Rafiu Babatunde Kazeem; Alhaji Imam Muthoib Adams, Alhaji Imam Hakeem Gafar (the officiating Imam). The prayer session was coordinated by the Chairman Committee of the Mosque, Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen coordinated the prayer session.
