… Embarks On Endurance Trek, Public Advocacy
As part of efforts to reposition the Lagos Island CBD, operatives of the agency have embarked on an endurance trek and advocacy around the Lagos Island CBD.
The exercise, which started from its Office on Salvage Lane, Apongbon, took the operatives through inner Marina, CMS, Broad Street, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Idumota, Balogun and Martins Streets.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on CBD, Mr. Gbenga Olarenwaju spoke after the event, noting that the advocacy was embarked upon to further appeal to CBD stakeholders, especially shop owners, motorists, residents and visitors, to support the CBD’s regeneration and redevelopment plans for the Lagos Island Business District.
Olarenwaju disclosed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has supported repositioning of the Agency, through the provision of manpower and equipment, reassuring shop and business owners, residents and the motoring public within the business districts that a conducive environment will be provided for businesses to strive.
He maintained that awareness and advocacy programmes have helped to convince the public about government policies and programmes, just as it served as an avenue to warn residents against illegal parking, street trading and indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
The Special Adviser added that the enlightenment outlined precautionary measures against COVID-19 and gave guidelines against damage to public infrastructure like the iron railings erected within the business district to prevent encroachment of traders on the roads.
The exercise was also aimed at improving the fitness of operatives and fostering comradeship amongst officers while illegal structures such as wooden canopies, chairs and tables erected on walkways and drainage alignments were removed.
