… Hosts Members of the National Association of Women Judges in Nigeria
The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, has commended the role of women in the State Judiciary, just as he assured members of the National Association of Women Judges in Nigeria of his total support for the participation of all the female judges during the forthcoming maiden edition of the International Day of Women Judges Symposium to be hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Justice Alogba spoke while receiving members of the Association led by its National President, Justice J.H. Sankey (JCA) on a courtesy visit to his office at the Ikeja High Court, saying “As a demonstration of my support for the Day, l am granting female judges in the State two days off – Thursday and Friday – to participate in the symposium with the theme: “The Challenges of Investigation and Prosecution of Sexual Offences: The Lagos State Experience”.
He applauded the vital roles and immense contributions of women judges to the development of the judiciary both at the State and National levels, stressing that women also play significant roles in society, homes, governance, professions and all walks of life.
The Chief Judge also expressed the hope that the symposium would serve as an avenue for the needed inclusion through education and public awareness for the female Judges and also promote the full and equal participation of women at all levels of the Judiciary.
Earlier, the President of the National Association of Women Judges in Nigeria, Justice J.H. Sankey (JCA) said the symposium scheduled to hold at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, will bring together female Judges from all Judicial Divisions across the country and from all High and Appellate Courts as well as the Apex Court in Nigeria.
According to her, the General Assembly of the United Nations had on the 28th of April 2021 proclaimed the 10th of March of every year the International Day of Women Judges to promote the full and equal participation of women at all levels of the judiciary, celebrate the progress that has been made and raise awareness about the challenges ahead.
“The lineup of activities for the International Day of Women Judges include a Welcome Cocktail, a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of Lagos State, a courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and a Press Conference”, she stated.
