The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has commenced its annual Fire Evacuation Drill in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as all designated government buildings on Wednesday, 1st December 2021, in a bid to raise awareness among Public Servants and mitigate the risk of fire outbreaks in offices.
A statement issued by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, said the simulated fire drill was flagged off at the Office of the Deputy Governor, Round House Alausa, Ikeja, and will take place in all MDAs to ensure effective and efficient use of the fire devices installed in all government buildings for emergency purposes.
Her words: “The drill will ensure an orderly exit, active emergency control action while preventing panic that has been responsible for most of the loss of lives in major fire disasters”.
“As an agency charged with the responsibility of fire prevention and firefighting, we are poised to continue a sustained sensitisation of the general public to guide against unforeseen fire disaster”, Mrs. Adeseye added.
While emphasising the need for workplace safety as the key to business continuity and disaster-risk prevention and reduction, she advised all government officials to maintain minimum safety standards in all public facilities.
The Director also disclosed that the theme of the exercise is “Sustaining Lagos Economy through Fire Prevention” while the slogan is: “To Avoid the Worst, Put Fire Safety First”.
The Fire Service boss commended the Governor Sanwo-Olu led administration for upholding Public Order and Safety as conceptualised in the Security and Governance pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda.
