Lagos state representative at this year’s Federation Cup, Smart City Football Club drew the National Under 20 team of Benin Republic in an international friendly in Lagos.
The match which was decided inside the main bowl of the Teslim Balogun stadium was to prepare the Surulere side for Nigeria’s oldest club football competition.
The two all draw against the Junior Squirrels of Benin was one of the high profile friendly matches put together for the Lagos State FA cup losing finalists in the build up to their first ever campaign in the Nigeria Football Federation organised AITEO Cup.
Smart City held a first half lead but threw away two goals advantage by allowing the visitors to get back in the second half and secured a morale boosting draw ahead of their 2019 Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ghana in Accra next weekend.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Adeyinka Adeboye expressed satisfaction with the performance of his team, adding that the Lagos side will play more warm up matches in the coming weeks.
Smart City FC lost by three goals to nothing in the final of the Lagos FA Cup against Nigeria Professional Football League side, MFM FC. The team will play against more established clubs in the challenge cup, Adeboye said the boys have garnered great experience from their nationwide playing tour in which they played against bigger teams.
Adeboye urged the players to remain focus and dedicated while hoping that most of them will get opportunity to represent Nigeria national teams in the future.
