Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr Kweku Tandoh says the state government is working closely with the Local Organising Committee of the Nigeria Open to ensure that this year’s event is bigger and better in all ramifications. Tandoh, who is the tournament director of the International Table Tennis Federation, ITTF Challenge stated that the ‘Lagos World Tour’ event has continued to attract international attention to the state in the last five years.
The sports administrator revealed that Lagos state has improved on its partnership contribution as promised by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode during the finals of last year’s event. He added that Nigeria Open offers Lagos the opportunity to use sports to boost tourism, adding that the event will also be listed in the Lagos State Tourism Annual Calendar.
Expectations for this year’s Lagos World Tour tournament is very high going by the quality of international players that have indicated interest in competing in Lagos, Tandoh vowed that all the hard work that is required to enable the event attain new heights will be put in.
The 2018 edition of Africa’s elite table tennis tournament billed for the indoor sports hall of the Teslim Balogun stadium holds from August 8th to 12th .
