The Director- General Lagos State Safety Commission Mr. Fouad Oki has commended the management of Automedics Plc, an outfit which deals with servicing and repairs of automobiles, for making safety consciousness a priority at workplace among artisans.
He gave the commendation today while declaring open the maiden edition of a training session on mandatory self-activated insurance cover for all auto maintenance artisans in Lagos State.
Oki noted that government appreciates it when the private sector identifies with and takes ownership of government’s initiatives geared towards improving the lot of all and sundry.
On his part, Mr. Gbola Oba, the Chief Operating Officer, Automedics Plc thanked the State Government for facilitating the process that gave artisans the opportunity to acquire basic skills on personal safety, workplace safety and the general understanding of how to deal with environmental issues as they affect their lives.
While commending the Commission for its strategic role in ensuring that the training took place, Oba explained that the lessons to be delivered has been made attractive in terms of language and style of delivery to the participants.
He emphasised that the training session will also address issues on causes and prevention of fire, as well as first aid basic safety skill, amongst others, needed to prevent loss of lives and property at the workplace.
In his remark at the event, Mr. Jacob Fayemi, Chairman Lagos State Chapter of Nigeria Automobile Technicians’ Association, stated that the training has been long overdue as many lives and property have been lost due to negligence on the part of members of the association, adding that the training is, however, a positive step in the right direction.
He opined that the training will certainly awaken the safety consciousness in the minds of automobile maintenance workers, pledging full compliance on behalf of his members after the completion of the three-day training.
Over 100 participants are being trained in the ongoing maiden edition which is expected to be held in phases in different locations across the state.
