A Task Force on open defecation recently inaugurated on the directives of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has swung into action, arresting some residents who were openly defecating in some parts of the State on Friday.
In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Mrs. Aderonke Odeneye, the raids by the operatives followed the marching orders given by Mr. Governor to the team after its inauguration.
She explained that those apprehended were caught at Ilubirin, some on the Carter Bridge and others at Leventis by Marina, all on Lagos Island.
Odeneye also disclosed that the Ministry has stepped up the rehabilitation of some public toilets that are in a bad state across the metropolis, revealing that plans for the constructing of new ones, in collaboration with the private sector, are already been finalised.
The Permanent Secretary said the State Government is irrevocably committed to stamping out open defecation, which is unacceptable in a Smart City like Lagos, informing that the raids will be a regular exercise across the State.
Odeneye appealed to the members of the public to desist from open defecation, warning that anyone arrested will be prosecuted according to the dictates of the State Environmental Sanitation laws.
