The clamour for full autonomy status to local government councils should be jettisoned as only few of them can meet their monthly wage bill efficiently.
This was the view of former Governor of Niger state, Babangida Aliyu at the national launch of the 2015 Nigerian states budget transparency survey result today in Abuja.
The former Governor who based his argument on the widening economic gaps in the country said workers are presently being owned arrears of salaries by both state and local governments.
He said the adoption of a joint account system was to give perceived local government with weak financial structure leverage to meet their responsibilities.
Other speakers at the event rate Nigeria low in budget information and transparency.
They harped on the need for Nigerians to be involved in the budget making process.
The Budget transparency survey project was conducted with the assistance of the British government in the 36 states of the federation
