LSPWC Reconstructs Odunlade, Fadipe Streets In Somolu

PIX 0753The Lagos State Public Works Corporation has embarked on massive road reconstruction along Odunlade and Fadipe Streets within Somolu Local Government Area in line with a directive of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode during recent routine inspection of roads and on-going projects within the State.
The Special Adviser/CEO, LSPWC, Engr. Ayotunde Sodeinde disclosed that the road projects became necessary upon the Governor’s discovery of the poor state of the roads.
Engineer Sodeinde said with the directive to fix the roads, Lagos State Public Works Corporation moved in to fix the roads, adding that before now, these roads were impassable and without drainage facilities.
“When we moved in we reconstructed the drainage to discharge from Odunlade Street through Fadipe into a collectable drainage so as to address the problem of flooding,” he averred.
He revealed that the road measuring about 483m is presently under-going base preparation after which asphalting will commence in the next few days depending on weather conditions.
The Chief Executive of Public Works Corporation lamented the state of poor sanitation in the area, especially the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into the drains which creates blockage and incessant flooding during the raining season but asserted that Ministry of the Environment and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) had concluded plans with the Community Development Association (CDA) in the area to channel the way forward in sanitation improvement.
The Secretary, Ajosegbemi CDA, Mr. Kehinde Ajayi recounted the pathetic state of the roads before the Ambode administration intervened and was full of praises to the Governor for keeping to his election promises, adding further that he was optimistic the project would bring succour to residents of Somolu Local Government.
Engineer Sodeinde also visited lkorodu-Sagamu road which is also being refilled with crushed stones prior to tarring with asphalt to fix pot-holes along the road.
He disclosed the readiness of LSPWC to contain the rainy season, saying that “our jet patchers are all over the local government fixing all the pot-holes. Some are presently working at Ifako-Ijaiye and even along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway simply to ensure that our roads are free of pot-holes during the heavy rains.”
The Legislator representing Ikorodu Constituency 01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanni Agunbiade commended the efforts of the Lagos State Public Works for continually maintaining the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road in order to ensure that Lagosians, especially motorists enjoy hitch-free vehicular movement at all times.
