Ahead of the 2019 general election, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi has assured the Lagos State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat of total support of the people of the ancient town.The monarch, who spoke on behalf of traditional rulers in Ikorodu division when Sanwo-Olu and his team visited the ancient town, assured the APC governorship candidate that the people of Ikorodu would not betray him in his quest for the leadership of Lagos State. At the consultative meeting held at the Ayangburen palace, other traditional rulers unanimously endorsed and pledged their support for Sanwo-Olu and Hazmat ticket for the 2019 governorship election in Lagos.Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, Oba Kabiru Shotobi urged the APC governorship candidate to make provision for more infrastructure and improvement of social services to Ikorodu as one of the five divisions of Lagos a priority if elected.
“The people of Ikorodu are behind you, but we want you to take the state to a greater height,” Shotobi said.
Oba Shotobi also listed a number of infrastructural projects needed in Ikorodu division, saying that he had a personal conviction that the duo of Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat would do a good job when elected because they had been part of successful governments of Lagos State.
He said: “We don’t have to sweat so much because I know the two of you personally and I know that you understand what our needs are in Ikorodu division. Ikorodu is one of the five divisions of Lagos. Existing infrastructure need to be expanded to accommodate increasing population and we need new ones. We want improvement on our public schools and health facilities among others.”Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu has assured traditional rulers in the state of a planned review of their allowances if elected governor of the state come next year as requested for by monarchs from Igando area of Alimosho Local Government.
The APC candidate spoke yesterday at a meeting with the traditional leadership in Igando area of the state as part of his state-wide consultation to listen to the expectations of the people.
The Onigando of Igando, Oba Lasisi Gbadamosi, received the APC candidate and his running mate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, in company of other traditional rulers within his domain. ObaGbadamosi, who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers, tasked Sanwo-Olu on security of lives and property in Igando area, pointing out that cultists were making lives difficult for the people.
The monarch stressed the need to rehabilitate the Igando General Hospital and expand facilities in the hospital to cater for large number of people. This, he said, was necessary due to the increasing population in the area. Oba Gbadamosi also made a case for increased representation of Awori people in the state affairs, urging Sanwo-Olu to stop what he described as “sustained discrimination” against Awori people in governance of the state.
Responding, Sanwo-Olu promised to capture the concerns of Awori people in his programmes. He also promised that security would be strengthened in the area and across the state. He said: “We have come to seek your support and to also listen to your concerns as we prepare to start our campaign. We are reaching out because we want everyone on board in our train that is ready to take Lagos to greater heights.
“During our consultations, we have listened to our royal fathers who have a lot of complaints about their welfare. We are going to review the allowances of our traditional rulers and re-organise our traditional institutions to make them to carry out their functions in proper ways as expected.”
