The top three teams from the Eko Youth Cup organised by the Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association yesterday were rewarded for their performances in the Under 15 competition. While hosting winners from the recently concluded tournament organised in his honour, Sports Philanthropist, Aare Bashir Fakorede promise to sustain the developmental competition and introduce female competition next year.
The teams and coaches accompanied by officials of the Lagos state grassroots soccer association were received by Aare Bashir Olawale Fakorede in his office on Tuesday as the sponsor redeemed his pledge.
At the presentation ceremony, the champions, Biodun Babes from Idimu, runners up, Marvelous Football academy from Sangotedo and third placed Kuduz Babes from Ojodu were rewarded with the sum of 1 million naira.
Individual award winners also received cash rewards with Muhammed Ali who netted 9 goals for Marvelous FA emerged the highest goal scorer. Bada Moses of Biodun Babes was adjudged the most valuable player while Wasiu Etti from Kuduz Babes won the best goalkeeper award.
Speaking after the presentation ceremony to mark his birthday, the donor stated that the youth must be encourage to develop their talents for greater opportunities in the future. He promised to consider adding girls competition starting from the next edition.
He commended the performance and skills displayed by the players that participated in the competition, stressing that if the talents discovered can be properly harnessed, they can play at the highest level.
