The national senior men’s basketball team D’Tigers finished the first round of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers undefeated, winning all six games in the first window. D’Tigers are one of 12 qualified teams for the 2nd Round of the African Qualifiers which begins in September as the top five teams making to the 2019 World Cup Finals in China.
D’Tigers defeated Mali 93-53 in game three at the qualifiers staged at the indoor Sports Hall of the National stadium in Surulere, Lagos with Jordan Nwora setting a new scoring record in the game.
Nwora recorded 36 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals as D’Tigers extended their winning streak. Nwora’s feat is the highest score recorded by a Nigerian basketball player in a major tournament.
Nigeria defeated Rwanda 111-70 in the second game with Obi Emegano scoring 24 points while captain, Ike Diogu’s 24 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists led the team to a comfortable 109-66 points victory over Uganda in the opener.
