 REPS COMMITTEE ON POWER HALTS ELECTRICITY TARIFF HIKE

The planned increase in electricity tariff by the electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) has been put on hold until there is a great improvement in the supply of electricity across the country.
This the final conclusion reached after a one day investigative hearing on the activities of distribution companies in Nigeria put together by the house of representatives related committees on power.
Speaking further to Lagos Television on the take home from the hearing,chairman of the ad hoc committee on the investigation of the planned increment of tariffs by the DISCOs and member representing Ikorodu federal constituency,Jimi Benson explained that power remains the most critical determinant of the living standard of the people,and as representatives of the people ,his committee has halted the proposed tariff increase until evident improvement is recorded in the distribution of the product to Nigerians.
Meanwhile the house power committee has risen against the payment of over 2.7 billion naira as severance packages for the commissioners of the Nigeria electricity regulatory commission (NERC), as they are political appointees and not civil servants.
