Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of Belgian playmaker and former Borussia Monchengladbach star Thorgan Hazard on a five-year contract.
Dortmund had been heavily linked with Eden Hazard’s little brother over the past few months and things escalated so quickly that Dortmund’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, at one point said “he couldn’t deny” the rumours linking Thorgan to the Signal Iduna Park outfit. Now it’s a done deal, and this move couldn’t fit both players more.
Hazard wanted to leave Monchengladbach, and Dortmund had an opening to fill since Christian Pulisic signed for Chelsea… in order to potentially replace Eden Hazard who seems set to join Real Madrid this summer. Dortmund has beaten the likes of Atletico Madrid, AS Roma and Liverpool for Hazard’s signature.
The Belgium international didn’t look at his best during the second half of the 2018/19 Bundesliga season, but still ended the campaign with 10 goals and 12 assists in 33 league appearances. He also added three goals and one assist in two DFB Pokal outings.
The 26-year-old playmaker might not end up being a difference-making player on the race for the Bundesliga title against Bayern Munich, but there’s no question he is a very good addition to a side that keeps strengthening year after year despite losing important players every single summer.
