 Tradesmen/Artisan Week: Ambode Launches Virtual Market Web Page

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, on Wednesday assured Lagosians that the government is working with relevant stakeholders to enhance the productivity of tradesmen and artisans across the state.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, stated this at the 9th edition of ‘Tradesmen and Artisans’ Week & Graduation Ceremony for Retrained Artisans’ in Ikeja.

He said in the last three and half years, through the Ministry of Wealth Creation, the government had showed unwavering commitment to tradesmen and artisans in Lagos State.

He said, “In line with our policy of inclusion, we have continued to invest heavily on programs that have benefited individuals and groups, particularly under the State Employment Trust Fund.

“Through the programs, the government has succeeded in giving a sense of belonging to artisans and tradesmen in the state; they have stepped up their skills to meet up with global standard.”

He said the government had worked to restore the feeling of dignity in labour and reinforced the importance of artisans and tradesmen as an important sector of the economy.

Ambode urged the graduates of the artisans’ skills training program to take advantage of the opportunities provided to be financially independent and become employers of labor.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, said government would continue to create of an enabling environment for artisans through the access to market, finance and capacity building.
